Snakes are one of the oldest motifs in jewelry, with examples found in western Asia, Egypt, Greece and the Roman Empire—and they remain an enduring totem. Jewelers craft everything from abstract pieces in bold shapes to realistic designs complete with precious scales, bejeweled eyes and forked tongues. But no brand is as closely associated with the beast as Bulgari, whose iconic Serpenti collection turns 75 this year. (That’s why there were so many serpents on the red carpet at the 2023 Academy Awards.)
