The Trump administration is asking a US appeals court to block a judge’s directive that government officials be questioned about their failure to seek the return of a Maryland man wrongly deported to El Salvador.
In an emergency filing late Wednesday, Justice Department lawyers said the judge exceeded her authority when she ordered that administration officials sit for depositions and provide documents after concluding “nothing” had been done to secure the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from a notorious Salvadoran prison.
