Northern Vietnam is bracing for Cyclone Wipha, which is forecast to intensify to a strong tropical storm before making landfall on Tuesday after tracking over the nation’s iconic Ha Long Bay.

Wipha was about 320 kilometers (200 miles) east of Hanoi as of late Monday afternoon, and the US Navy’s Joint Typhoon Warning Center expects the storm will gradually strengthen as it moves across the Gulf of Tonkin. The outer bands of the system are already bringing heavy rain to Vietnam’s capital.
