Germany’s transport ministry will replace the head of state-owned railway operator Deutsche Bahn AG after years of criticism over delays and persistent unreliability.

The contract of Chief Executive Officer Richard Lutz, which runs through 2027, will be terminated ahead of time, the ministry said in a statement on Thursday. Lutz has led Deutsche Bahn since 2017 and will remain CEO until a successor has been found.
